TCBOE Code of Conduct/Attendance

  1. When a student is absent, the State of Alabama requires a written note on file within 3 days upon a student’s initial return to school. The student will be deemed unexcused if the parent does not explain in writing the cause of the absence.
    • Third unexcused absence: A parent conference will be required to discuss the attendance policy.
    • Fifth unexcused absence: School officials will file a truancy complaint with the juvenile court officials.
    • Seventh unexcused absence: School officials will sign a warrant on parents of students in elementary school.
    • Seven or more absences will result in contributing to a truancy charge being filed against the parent(s) or guardian(s) of all students.
  2. Each note about attendance must contain the following information:
    • Child’s full name
    • Date to be excused
    • Reason for absence
    • Phone number to contact parent/guardian
    • Signature of parent or doctor
  3. A phone call to the school about an absence is NOT sufficient documentation. 
  4. Students are only allowed to use 7 parent excuses for the entire year. Students who are absent 18 or more days are considered chronically absent.This includes excused and unexcused absences.
  • No sleeveless shirts, crop tops, halter tops, etc…
  • No cut off pants or cuts/rips above the knee
  • Shorts, skirts, jumpers and dresses should not be shorter than 3 in. above the knee
  • No gym shorts, sweat pants, joggers or pajama pants
  • No bubble shoes or slides 
  • Only closed toe shoes are allowed
  • Leggings may NOT be worn as pants. Leggings may be worn under a dress or tunic that meets the required length  (3 inches above knee).
  • Hair must be of natural color
  • Do not bring hats to school unless it’s a hat day.

Unauthorized possession or use of any communication device or electronic device during school hours and on buses is prohibited. (cell phones, iPads, Smartwatches, or any other digital devices). If a student has a device, it will be taken up, turned into administration, and the parent will be notified.

Backpacks MUST be clear or mesh.
